today grace went in for her two month checkup, time is flying by!
it was really tough, and i made brandon come so he could hold her because i'm a big baby myself and i hate shots and i knew i couldn't do it alone. the crazy part is i fed her right before we left and in the middle of her checkup the doctor looked up at me after listening to her tummy and said "she's hungry- you can feed her after the shots" i asked him how much i should be feeding her (since we've had to start supplementing because i wasn't producing enough breast milk which was really unfortunate because i wanted/stillwant to only breastfeed as long as i can) and he said four oz was the most we should do per feeding and i had just watched her suck down four oz without breathing before we got there!
this baby likes her food.
when we got home she started screaming like ive never heard before- it was such a sad cry like she was in real pain (i'm sort of glad that i'd never heard it before because that meant she'd never been in pain before) it was AWFUL! i wanted to rip my brain out. or put on ear muffs. or use my brain as ear muffs. it's true when people say that you feel your child's pain more than your own.
it's amazing.
and terrible.
i'd hate to be the person who has to give shots to screaming sad babies all day! i guess the payoff is the smiles later...?
so we went home, i gave grace a bath and she glared through the whole thing and then clung to my shirt for the rest of the afternoon like "how dare you do this to me!" "dont you ever think of doing this ever again!" it was so sad! she has a little fever and everytime i moved holding her or nursing she would start crying again. the doctor said to rub her shots to help ease the soreness and i had to have b do it because i couldn't again.
but now we are all ready for sleep and grace is out, poor honey.
tomorrow we leave for AZ for the sander's family reunion! i am very excited to meet that side!
i am less excited to drive the 11 hours to do it, but i feel like it's really important right now.
next week my family is coming for grace's blessing and that is going to be awesome. i wish chris and sarahmas could come too but they are here in spirit and hearties. plus the week after we are going to home! san diego and will hopefully play with them there.
photos are being tooked! i just have to find the time and hands to do it...
summer is out of control.

pda!
sunday is the 10th!
two years ago i married brandon leslie cochran in the sandiegotemple for time and all eternity.
it was the best day of my whole life (right next to the birth of grace of course)
i know my face hurt from smiling all day.

we've gone through thick and thin with each other and i love him more each day because of it. there is nobody who makes me laugh harder, smile bigger, or reach farther in my life than this man. he is my missing peace, and completely fills my heart and head (sometimes to bursting, which explains my absent mindedness... that or breastfeeding)
i knew instantly when i met brandon that he was someone i'd like to get to know. we have a lot in common, we are both super goofy and have had some crazy adventures in our lives. we both see the world at a very different angle than most people, everything holds beauty in it and the world is beautiful when we are together. it took us three years to get our stars lined up and go on a date. i'll never forget that day and the days that followed- they are magic to me still.
on top of brandon being wonderful, i have to say i am blessed by brandon's family in the same incredible sense that b blesses my life. they have really loved and accepted me like i was there all along, especially his mother and siblings. i dont have any nieces or nephews on my side (YET PEOPLE, YET) but when i entered the cochran family i got a whole bushel full and i love each and every one of them- each one is so unique and awesome!
i am a better person because i know brandon, and i feel really special that he picked me to be with forever.

freedomstruggles
this post should be about grace (isnt that what all good things are about people?!) but i'm gonna take a small (teenietiny) break from that in celebration of today.
i'm not going to say that i never cared about freedom or anything before i met brandon- but i am going to say that it means a lot more to me now because of him.

some days i wish brandon was still that youthful gung ho american soldier marine man who believed that he had something to do over in afghanistan that was noble and good. and some days he is, but mostly the war took that person and buried him under ten feet of dust and sand and death, so on most days he thinks the military is the biggest waste of time and money and human hearts there's ever been.
but every year, on the fourth of july- there's a magical pride in the air that is contagious for our country and what it's taken to get us here. i'm not talking about obesity- that kind of wonderful, i'm talking about the raw goodness that surrounds any difficult acquirement. and the appreciation that comes with struggle and unfortunately, sometimes, a fight.
we went up to afton wyoming to visit my mother's side of the family. my grandparents were kind enough to let us stay with them in their camper which i secretly in an openish fashion love. at one point my grandpa (who, served in the navy himself) asked brandon if he thought what we were doing over in afghanistan was something he believed in still.
i've asked him that a few times myself and i always get a different response from him. but here is what i've gathered. :
if we dont help them, who will?
really.
who will?
if we dont do anything about the situation there, then it will eventually come here.
i think we are doing a terrible job at an initially good plan.
and
the afghanistan people need to stand up for their own country.
as much as i've moaned and groaned about the military, i'm proud to be a marine wife- and when people ask me about it i say it's not something e ever would have planned for myself, but it's taught me more about my own strength as a person than any other trial i've ever experienced.
(now that i'm a mom, there are new experiences that try me and i'm aware that an entirely new growth must occur in order for me to feel successful at all)
and i'm glad of it.
when people tell brandon he's a hero, or that he has done something great, it's actually sort of offensive to him. not because he isn't- but because he knows people who he feels are the real heroes. and they are. like the men who die out there, the ones who give their lives, and the families who suffer the loss of their brothers and sisters and fathers and sometimes mothers. he wants their sacrifice so badly to not be in vain. but it's difficult for him because he's still alive and most people here in the states treat the war like it's unnecessary, useless, and is going on and on and on far too long.
what i'm really trying to say, and i'm doing an awful job at it and going about it all the wrong way... is happy fourth of july. i hope one day, the people in afghanistan and in many other countries can celebrate freedom and be proud of the rights they've struggled for.
i also hope that the moral of our nation and troops can be revived, and maybe we can re-assess our involvement in conflicts and be more pro-active and supportive in the conflicts we are in on already.
and most importantly remember the lives that have gone before us, died for us, and their efforts to retain our rights and freedoms, and the blessings we enjoy because of it.
i love my country, and i love my husband and the things he's done, and the honor he shows our nation by the way he lives. i love that i have the choice to be whoever i want to, and believe in whatever i want to, and the ability to be unoppressed and happy.
and let's be real, to have this girl.
